Regular sightings for September include continuing marsh birds such as the Great Egret, Black-crowned Night Herons, and the Great Blue Heron. With the beginning of raptor season, the activity in the skies will likely include Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, and other hawks.

September also sees many fall migrants, including juveniles, to Inwood. Fall migratory birds wear different plumage, so identification can be tricky. Based on previous September sightings, expect Common Yellowthroat, Palm Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, Scarlet Tanager, Northern Parula, Eastern Phoebe, Black-and-white Warbler, Northern Yellow Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and House Finch. 

Look for small shorebirds such as sandpipers, plovers, and Killdeer in the marsh areas at low tide.
