Sightings Winter 2024 – February 2024

Regular sightings for the month of February 2024. The location is Inwood Hill Park unless otherwise noted.

Notes: In the first week of February, the most active birds observed were Northern Cardinals, woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Dark-eyed Juncos, Carolina Wrens, Mallards, gulls, and Red-tailed Hawks. The Red-tailed Hawks were often observed in hunting parties of 2 to 4 hawks.

On February 8 and 9, the Eastern Screech-Owl was observed in its crevice home in the Clove. Read more about this owl. On the morning of February 12, a Great Horned Owl was seen in a thicket above the Clove. This owl was last observed by me in the same location in the spring of 2022.
