Sightings Spring 2025 – April 2025

Regular sightings for April 2025.

April brings spring migratory birds to Inwood, making this month one of the most active times of year for birdwatching. Many warblers arrive in April including often-seen Yellow-rumped Warblers, Pine Warblers, Palm Warblers, and Black-and-white Warblers. Look for kinglets, vireos, Northern Parulas, and thrushes. Baltimore Orioles typically arrive later in the month. Many types of sparrows arriving now make identification a challenge.

Salt Marsh birds in April typically include Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Ospreys, and Black-crowned Night Herons. Look for Double-crested Cormorants in the water. Hawks will continue roaming the area, and it’s still possible to observe an owl or two. Many species will begin or continue nest activity. By the end of the month, Inwood Hill Park will be full of song.
