Regular sightings for the month of January 2026. Common sights this month include Red-tailed and Cooper’s Hawks, woodpecker varieties, Blue Jays, White-throated Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, Tufted Titmice, Northern Cardinals, Northern Mockingbirds, kinglets, American Crows, and waterfowl. Great Blue Herons may be present at the Salt Marsh as long as there is open water.

First Bird of 2026 – Cooper’s Hawk
At first light, I saw a Cooper’s Hawk from my kitchen window. The first picture is with the window closed. For the second picture, I opened the window. It was cold today in NYC, with an early morning snow squall.
