A visual journal exploring the birds of Inwood and Northern Manhattan by Teri Tynes

Sightings Winter 2026 – February 2026

Regular sightings for the month of February 2026. This particular month falls within a prolonged period of intermittent snowfalls and cold temperatures. For the first half of February, the woods and the water were blanketed in snow and ice. I have included several winter landscape pictures for this month. See them below.

The month is good for viewing Bald Eagles, especially along any ice floes in the Hudson River. Hawks are active. This month, a Red-shouldered Hawk is present in addition to Red-tailed Hawks. At the Salt Marsh, look for a variety of waterfowl including mergansers.

Northern Cardinals begin singing their song of spring.
