A visual journal exploring the birds of Inwood and Northern Manhattan by Teri Tynes

Sightings Winter 2024 – December 2024

Typical sightings in Inwood during December include ongoing hawks (Red-tailed and Cooper’s), woodpecker varieties, Carolina Wrens and Winter Wrens, a resident Great Blue Heron at the Salt Marsh, a Belted Kingfisher, a variety of sparrows, common water birds, and one or two Northern Mockingbirds.

The recent return of the popular winter birds – Black-capped Chickadees, Dark-eyed Juncos, White-breasted Nuthatches and Tufted Titmice – will likely continue. Park regulars include Northern Cardinals and Blue Jays.
