Sightings Summer 2024 – August 2024

Cover: A Double-crested Cormorant assumes the pose on the dock of Muscota Marsh. August 2, 2024. 6:47 a.m. In the midst of a heat wave, the cormorant is drying off and cooling its feathers in the early morning hours.

Continuing monthly sightings for birds in Inwood and Northern Manhattan.

August 15, 2024. Raptor activity is picking up with sightings of Ospreys and a Bald Eagle. Read more about the Bald Eagle observed at the Salt Marsh on August 13, 2024.

August 22, 2024. A juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron was observed at the Salt Marsh. Read more about the juveniles in this post from 2023 and in this new post from August 26, 2024.

Ospreys – August 29, 2024

On the morning of August 29, 2024, three Ospreys fished along Spuyten Duyvil Creek and the Harlem River. One took advantage of a perch on top of the Henry Hudson Bridge. Another took its fresh catch to the stadium lights of the Columbia University athletic facility.
