Sightings Fall 2024 – September 2024

Regular sightings for the month. September often features many of the continuing marsh birds such as the Great Egret, Black-crowned Night Herons, and the Great Blue Heron. With the beginning of raptor season, the activity in the skies will likely include Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, and other hawks.

Three Juvenile Black-crowned Night Herons at the Salt Marsh – September 5, 2024

On the morning of September 5, 2024, three juveniles were spotted on the kayak/canoe launch in the main salt marsh (middle image). An adult Black-crowned Night Heron was observed on the north side of the Harlem River across from Muscota Marsh.
