Osprey

Ospreys have been visiting the Salt Marsh in the past few years. In 2021 and 2022, I observed them arriving in late August or around Labor Day at the beginning of the September.

In late May 2023, a pair of Ospreys looked like they were making an effort to set up a permanent breeding ground. They were observed delivering nesting material to the tall light towers overlooking Columbia University’s stadium in Northern Manhattan. The area is near the Salt Marsh and Muscota Marsh where the Ospreys find plenty of fishing opportunities. This is a developing story. Look for the latest developments at the post Suddenly, Ospreys.
